Adele’s new album “25” will be released today – but not on Apple Music, Spotify & Co.

If critics and music magazines are to be believed, it will probably be the most successful album of the year. But as has now become known, Adele’s album “25” – Adele always names her albums after her age (previously “19” and “21” have been released) – will not be available on Apple Music, Spotify or any other streaming service.

Based on three insiders, the US newspaper “New York Times” reports that Spotify, Apple Music and all other streaming services have to do without the album “25”. The decision is not justified, but Adele stands behind the publication strategy of her record company “Columbia Records”. Billboard magazine estimates that the album could sell up to 2.5 million copies in its first week.

“We love and respect Adele – as do her 24 million fans on Spotify,” Spotify said in a statement. “We hope she will give these fans a chance to hear ’25’ on Spotify very soon.” Adele is not alone in taking this step. In 2013, the streaming service lost Beyoncé’s successful album of the same name, and a year later superstar Taylor Swift withdrew from Spotify with all of her albums.

As of today, however, “25” can be purchased in the iTunes Store as usual. The eleven-song album costs 11.99 euros.
