Spotify announces a new acquisition, that of Sonantic. It is a dynamic artificial intelligence voice platform that creates compelling, nuanced and realistic voices from texts. We talked about it in February.

In its statement, Spotify says Sonantic’s technology will allow it to create high-quality experiences for its users by building on its existing technical capabilities. The group has identified several potential opportunities for text-to-speech capabilities on its platform. He also thinks that in the long run, high-quality voice will be important in increasing listener share. For example, this voice technology could help give users context about upcoming recommendations when they’re not looking at their screen.
“We are very excited about the potential to bring Sonantic’s AI voice technology to Spotify and create new experiences for our users”says Ziad Sultan, vice president of personalization at Spotify. “This integration will allow us to engage users in a new and even more personalized way”.
“We look forward to joining Spotify and continuing to create exciting voice experiences”said Sonantic co-founders Zeena Qureshi and John Flynn. “We believe in the power of voice and its ability to foster a deeper connection with users around the world, and we know we can be better than ever on the world’s largest audio platform”.
